"This was a lovely surprise. It's S by Signorello, a new project of Napa vintner Ray Signorello and winemaker Priyanka French, who hails from Mumbai and joined Signorello in 2019. Because it's a young Napa Cabernet, we expected it to be a bit aggressive. Instead, it was well structured and balanced with fruit that was inviting - so inviting that we figured it must have a significant amount of Merlot. Nope, it's just 7% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot. It's $75 and likely hard to find, but keep this label in mind - and Priyanka French's name too."

“S is crafted from diverse appellations such as Howell Mountain, Rutherford, and St. Helena, with a vision to produce a modern, plush Cabernet Sauvignon. The label creation for S was inspired by the simplicity and elegance of Ray’s heirloom monogrammed cufflinks, given to him by his father, Ray Sr., the visionary co-founder of Signorello Estate. Behind the monogram is an embossed modern "S" pattern that hints toward topography lines and multiple vineyard sites.”

2019 S by Ray Signorello Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley
"Very dark garnet in color, this wine smells of black cherry and cola. In the mouth, bright cherry cola flavors mix with darker notes of licorice and cocoa powder. Excellent acidity keeps things bright and faint fleecy tannins tickle the edges of the palate. Lush and bright, and likely quite crowd-pleasing. Includes 7% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot. Fermented with native yeasts and aged for 18 months in 50% new French oak. Unfined and unfiltered. 14.9% alcohol. Score: between 9 and 9.5.”
